He has to believe Ianto's been sent home. It's one thing to lose him and yet know he's safe. It's another thing entirely to think he might be dead or lost in time and space.

He can't let himself think anything other than that Ianto's back safely in Cardiff.

"You came here from my future. Had you heard anything from us lately?" He shouldn't ask questions about his own future. It's one of the rules of time travel, because know your future and you try to change it.
